Flex and HistoSonics received three top honors at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)—IDEA Gold, the Impact Award, and Best in Show—for their collaboration on the Edison® 系统, the first non-invasive liver tumor destruction platform of its kind.
Utilizing histotripsy, a pioneering focused ultrasound technology, the Edison® System directly targets tumors without surgery, heat, or radiation, opening a new frontier in tumor care. Together, these awards recognize the system’s exceptional design, real-world healthcare impact, and outstanding achievement across all IDEA winner categories.
From the outset, HistoSonics and Flex partnered to transform the science of histotripsy into an intuitive, reliable, and scalable commercial system. Flex contributed expertise spanning industrial design, user interface, human factors, mechanical and electrical engineering, and 面向制造的设计。, helping shape both the product and user experience from the ground up. This integrated approach ensured the system met the demands of the clinical environment while supporting regulatory requirements, manufacturability, and future scale. By combining innovation, engineering, and systems thinking, Flex helped turn a breakthrough technology into a commercial and clinical reality.
The Edison System demonstrates what is possible when clinical innovation, product design and commercialization expertise come together from the start. Flex is both honored and proud to have played a role in bringing this important technology to market, where it can make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.
