In a pledge to provide opportunities for all, the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda emphasizes the importance of inclusion as part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For several years, Flex has promoted and contributed to these Sustainable Development Goals, and has aligned its 20 by 2020 to these SDGs. The 20 goals reflect the company’s commitment to the highest sustainability standards, which is further highlighted by the recent participation of Flex in the UN Global Compact.
In line with its strategy, Flex hosted a week-long global initiative for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which featured on-site community and fundraising activities that raised awareness for People with Disabilities. The sites’ response was staggering, with a participation of more than 17,600 employees in 100 activities across 31 countries around the world. Not only did the collaboration across the locations help Flex employees feel part of a unified community, but it also benefited 28 different non-profit organizations.
Efforts on an international scale
These efforts included a job fair for PwD in Flex Muckachevo which garnered connections for attendees, an activity for able-bodied employees in Ibakari, Japan who experienced the challenges of getting around in a wheelchair, and a market where people with disabilities sold their products in the sites of Páty, Gyál and Budapest in Hungary, among many other activities the world over.
Furthermore, at Flex there is an ongoing effort to promote the employment of PwD. For example, employees in Hungary have worked with the Salva Vita Foundation to generate a program for PwD, while sites in China have implemented programs and carried out facility enhancements to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities.
Creating opportunities for the future
Adding to this, the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion includes a particular emphasis on the recruitment, hiring and retention of a diverse talent pool to extend its social impact and affect positive change in its local communities. Inclusion is at the heart of Flex, present in its strategy, in the continual progress to achieve the SDGs, and in both its internal and external commitments and actions.
