How to Speed Your IoT Product Development with Ease

How to Speed Your IoT Product Development with Ease

The Intelligence of Things is only just beginning. Connected devices are already present throughout our daily lives and projected to grow to 50 billion by 20201.

Soon simple, ultra-low-power devices will revolutionize the way we interpret our world by collecting data to provide valuable, actionable insights – but only if they can be created. For many, the development cycle is too long and the level of investment too high. That's why we created our rapid IoT development platform, iENBL, as a low-risk, low-cost and fast way to bring IoT products to market.

The Growth of LPWAN

Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) enable us to embed connectivity into everyday objects, transforming cities into smart cities and workplaces into connected environments. Two of the most widely deployed are LoRa and Sigfox, which are changing the “smartphone IoT hub” paradigm that allows IoT devices to connect to the Internet only when a smartphone is nearby.

LPWAN solutions are growing at an astounding rate. In 2017, the LoRa Alliance reported a 176% increase in certified product growth from 2016.2 That growth is projected to continue, as industry analyst firm IDATE projects that LPWAN units shipped will grow from 109 million in 2017 to 339 million in 2025.2

  1. Changing the Connectivity WAN-scape

These technologies have significantly changed the Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity landscape for IoT devices. As they provide IoT devices with low data rates and long-range communication capabilities, they also maintain very low power consumption and a low cost for the silicon transceiver.

Asset tracking and geolocation services are the main sectors that will benefit from LPWAN technologies, but other verticals including smart buildings, smart cities, agriculture and farming are finding solutions to their own connectivity problems. Many IoT applications require geolocation, and LPWAN technologies provide an additional benefit of location information at different levels of accuracy without using additional sensing elements.

  1. Introducing Your New IoT Product with Ease

The rapid and ongoing growth of IoT devices presents performance and reliability challenges that grow larger and faster than ever seen before. Bringing new communication technologies to market is a long process that requires adequate network coverage, availability of devices and funds. This process can be time-consuming and costly, as several iterations are necessary to produce an optimized IoT device that achieves the desired functionality at the right price.

A rapid IoT development platform, like our iENBL, reduces the time and cost associated with developing an IoT product. iENBL helps you develop, verify and test your IoT ideas in the field without hardware development costs or time. iENBL combines many sensors and actuators with the latest low power Wide Area Network connectivity technologies, like NB_IoT, LTE, CatM, LoRa or SigFox, to accelerate application development.

Building a quick prototype is relatively inexpensive and easy to do using one of the multiple open and generic development platforms that are available on the market today, like Raspberry Pi or Andruino. However, while this solution may be helpful for testing an idea on an engineering desk, it is not adequate for a proof-of-concept field test.

We recognize that this lack of appropriate hardware slows the introduction of IoT solutions and developed the iENBL as a solution.
